Study Finds Shallow Disk Injection of Manure Significantly Reduces Estrogen Concentrations from Runoff

A recently published study from Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences found dramatic reductions in estrogen concentrations from agricultural runoff by utilizing shallow disk injection for manure application versus traditional surface broadcast. Runoff containing high concentrations of estrogen poses a threat to wildlife and humans as the hormone acts as an endocrine disruptor which can cause adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects.
