As an alternative to the yield-goal-based N recommendations, a group of researches created a calculator based on N rate trial data to evaluate the economic returns of N application at current nitrogen and corn prices. This approach was created in response to the observation that the amount of fertilizer N needed to maximize yields was not increasing as quickly as corn yields.
