Tom Bruulsema from the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) states implementing the 4R principles is a great start, but there’s a lot more to the 4R’s than just right source, place, time, and rate. To Tom, stewardship goes beyond nutrient application, “In the end, many of the principles we apply to 4R will also need to be applied to additional practices, including those for crops, soils, and pests, extending to cover crops, tillage practices, and stream bank management.
