“Soil Your Undies” or in other words, test your soil health! This past summer, farmers in southern Minnesota dug holes in their corn and soybean fields and buried pairs of cotton underwear that would be dug back up two months later for observation. This is in no way a scientific test, but the act helps farmers to understand the amount of organic matter in their soils. You can see in the image below, the underwear in the center was buried in conventionally tilled soils for two months, while the others had cover crops either with standing crops or following.
