A recent study conducted in Fillmore County, Minnesota, tested rate and timing of nitrogen (N) applications on fields with corn following soybeans. The results indicate that economic returns were greatest on fields that received 120 lb N/acre (60/60) split and preplant treatments. Applications of N around 210 lb/acre increased residual soil nitrate (RSN) by 300%. High RSN levels escalate risks of nitrate leaching to surface and ground waters. For more information, click here!
