Announcing 2016 Ag Retailer BMP Products & Services Survey Results!

Highlightss from the 2016 Ag Retailer Survery

  • 62 surveys were compiled from participants located in the Great Lakes Basin (GLB) states of Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois.
  • The 2016 results show a continued increase in best management practices (BMP) products and services used to manage phosphorus losses in the GLB.
  • In the Sandusky River Watershed, acres of rotational sampling increased by 20% from 2015 to 2016; VRT increased by 19%; and acres with cover crops doubled, with 10% reported in 2015 and 22% in 2016.
  • Using rough estimates from published studies, ag retailers who responded to our survey and currently represent over four million acres in the GLB, reduced P losses by over one million lbs. from VRT sales alone.
  • A majority of responding ag retailers reported making a profit on the sales of BMP products and services. The most profitable were soil testing, foliar feeding and VRT phosphorus application.
